Based in Redditch, just south of Birmingham, UK we are two Adult Fans of Lego (AFOLs) who enjoy building all sorts of things from small Star Wars sets, through Harry Potter and Disney, all the way up to Landrovers and Concorde!

Fiddling about with the spares from our sets back in 2022, Katherine fell upon the idea to turn them into stud earrings, and By Design Not Default was born! Since then, we have appeared at Lego shows up and down the country, made custom items for other AFOLs, and met a lot of Lego lovers (both young and old) who rave about our creations.

Roy also trades new and pre-loved sets, and we have recently opened a BrickOwl shop too. So there's a lot of Lego going through our house (though you can never have too much!).

Our mantra is that if Lego make it or have made it we can turn it into jewellery for you. So if you can't see exactly what you're after on our website just drop us a message and we'll do all we can to make your dream a reality.
